Every kiryana store in Pakistan runs on udaar — customers take goods today and settle at the end of the week or month. The paper khata register holding those balances is also the shop's biggest vulnerability: it gets lost, smudged, disputed, and it can never tell you the total outstanding at a glance. This guide shows how to move the khata to Tijarat without changing how you work.

What is a digital udaar khata?

A digital udaar khata (ادھار کھاتا ایپ) does exactly what your register does — one page per customer, every credit sale written down, every repayment subtracted — except it lives in your shop's Tijarat account. Each customer gets a running credit balance: a positive number means the customer owes the shop. Nothing else changes; the trust relationship stays exactly the same.

Setting up your customers

  1. Open your vendor dashboard and add a customer with a name and phone number.
  2. If they already owe you from the paper register, record the opening balance as their first entry.
  3. Optionally set a credit limit so the POS warns you before udaar grows past a line you choose.

Credit sales straight from the POS

The daily workflow is where the digital khata pays off. At checkout in the Tijarat web POS, attach the customer and choose Khata / Customer Credit instead of cash. The sale total is added to their balance automatically, stock is deducted, and an immutable ledger entry is written — no double entry, no end-of-day copying from receipts into the register.

Repayments without disputes

When a customer pays back — cash, JazzCash, bank transfer — record a repayment against their name. The balance drops instantly, and both of you can point to the same dated entry. Because every transaction carries a timestamp and amount, "maine to de diya tha" arguments end with a ten-second search instead of a ten-minute argument.

Why shops switch

Keep the paper habit, drop the paper risk

You do not have to abandon the register overnight. Run both for a month: write entries in the notebook for the customer's comfort, and let Tijarat hold the authoritative balance. When the notebook fills up, you will notice you stopped needing it.
